Anthony D’Angelo, APR, Fellow PRSA, 2018 PRSA chair-elect Comments on The Wall Street Journal Crisis of the Week

Following a sting of notable scandals which cost Germany’s largest lender, Deutsche Bank, billions of dollars, the company published full-page advertisements in German newspapers to apologize. Anthony D’Angelo, APR, Fellow PRSA, 2018 PRSA chair-elect and public relations professor at Syracuse University offered his take on the crisis and the bank’s response in The Wall Street Journal.
“John Cryan’s apology may be sincere, and his plans for the company positive and honorable,” said D’Angelo in the newspaper. “The act of advertising, however, may inform audiences that would otherwise be unaware of Deutsche Bank’s troubles and could cause those who are already aware–investors, the news media, customers, employees–to wonder why the bank had to buy the space to state its case while more direct, less promotional methods are available.”
