Among Dotson’s portfolio of achievements is her work in the tourism industry, specifically the promotion of the Reno-Tahoe region on a regional and national level through the Reno-Tahoe Regional Marketing Committee (an effort designed to maintain and build air service to the destination), assisting with new flight launches marketing programs. In regards to crisis communications, Dotson played an integral role in managing the local response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks where she worked side-by-side for three days with the Reno-Tahoe International Airport’s public affairs manager assisting in all areas of response. She is also a trained public information officer and has been involved with the media relations efforts for several regional crisis situations including the flood of 1997 and the Sierra Chemical Explosion. Most recently, Dotson managed the social media communications for a series of floods that impacted the area in December 2012.
Dotson has been a member of the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) since 1995, serving in various capacities on the board through December 2006, when she completed her three year board position as the Chapter’s National Assembly delegate. In March 2007, 2009 and 2012, Dotson served as one of approximately 150 senior practitioner judges for the annual Silver Anvil Awards competition in New York City. Dotson has served on the North Pacific District Board since 2010, serving as secretary for two years, chair-elect in 2011 and chair in 2012.
Dotson is also a member of the Reno-Tahoe Chapter of the American Marketing Association, previously serving on the board, a member of the Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition Marketing and Media Committee, a board member of the Northern Nevada Development Authority and a Marketing Committee Member for the Reno Philharmonic. Previously, she served on the Board for the Northern Nevada Branch of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Northern Nevada Chapter of the Red Cross, KUNR Public Radio, University of Nevada Women’s Athletics Board-Pack Paws, as well as the Reno-Tahoe Chapter of the American Marketing Association. In 2003, Dotson served as a professional advisor to public relations students participating in the National Bateman Competition. She is a graduate of the 1999 Leadership Reno-Sparks program sponsored by the Greater Reno/Sparks Chamber of Commerce.
Work completed on behalf of RKPR’s clients has garnered several Silver Spike Awards of Excellence in Public Relations Programming from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Sierra Nevada Chapter, as well as ACE Awards from the local chapter of American Marketing Association (AMA).
